STUDENT AWARDS & HONORS

SENIOR HONORS - 2011

Jen-Chou Wang (Biochemistry & Chemistry) was honored as the department's Outstanding Senior at the Annual Senior Honor Banquet held on April 15, 2011.

2011 STETSON UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH AND CREATIVE ARTS SYMPOSIUM(SURCAS):

Jen-Chou Wang - 11'(Biochemistry & Chemistry) was a winner of aMaris Prize at this year'sSURCAS,April 19th, 2011 for his Poster Presentation.

Jen-Chou Wang - 11'(Biochemistry and Chemistry) -2011 SURCAS Poster Presentation: "Detection of Bisphenol A in the Leachate from Storage Containers and the Possible Interaction between BPA and an Intracellular Target" (Dr. Ramee Indralingam).


At the 2011 Academic Honors Convocation held on May 6, 2011, the following awards were presented to the following outstanding students from the Department of Chemistry:



Kyle Burton
was awarded the ACS Award for Achievement in Inorganic Chemistry. The award is sponsored by the Division of Inorganic Chemistry of the American Chemical Society (ACS), and is given to a student who has demonstrated excellence in inorganic chemistry at the undergraduate level.


William Brady was awarded the ACS Award for Achievement in Analytical Chemistry. The award is sponsored by the Division of Analytical Chemistry of the ACS, and is given to a student who has demonstrated excellence in the analytical chemistry course.

Melissa Palmer was awarded the POLYED Award for Achievement in Organic Chemistry. The award is offered by the National Information Center for Polymer Education (POLYED), for outstanding performance in the two-semester Organic Chemistry sequence.

Amanda Forrest and Eric Hallwere awarded the Chemical Rubber Corporation Award for achievement in General Chemistry. The award is a CRC Handbook of Physics and Chemistry, dontated by CRC Press. It is given to a student who has taken the entire year's general chemistry sequence at Stetson University and had done outstanding work.


DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI& GUEST VISITORS in 2011:

Dr. Shawn Campagna of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, visited on February 2, 2011. His talk was entitle, "Bacterial Quorum Sensing: Deciphering Interspecies Communication with Chemical Tools".


SENIOR HONORS - 2010

Naomi C. Pernicone (Chemistry) was honored as the department's Outstanding Senior at the Annual Senior Honors Banquet held on April 15, 2010.

At the 2010 Academic Honors Convocation, the follwoing awards were presented to the following outstanding students from the Department of Chemistry:

Dane Moran was awarded the Chemical Rubber Corporation Award for Achievement in General Chemistry.

Melissa Ann Morello was awarded the POLYED Award for Achievement in Organic Chemistry.

Jacob Geri was awarded the ACS Award for Achievement in Inorganic Chemistry.

Carolin Griebel was awarded the ACS Award for Achievement in Analytical Chemistry.

Naomi C. Pernicone was awarded the American Institute of Chemists Foundation Outstanding Senior Award.


DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI& GUEST VISITORS in 2010:

The ACS Stetson Student Chapter, sponsored a talk by Dr. William Gower, Professor, University of South Florida, and Associate Chief of Staff, R&D, VA Hospital, Tampa, on November 17, 2010. His talk was entitled, "The Heart as an Endocrine Organ".


SENIOR HONORS - 2009

Mary Jane Simpson (Chemistry) and Daniel Infield (Biochemistry) were honored as the department's Outstanding Seniors at the Annual Senior Honors Banquet held on April 16, 2009.

At the 2009 Academic Honors Convocation, the follwoing awards were presented to the following outstanding studentsf from the Department of Chemistry:

Lyudmila Cheban was awarded the Chemical Rubber Corporation Award for Achievement in Freshman Chemistry.

John Parker Chapman was awarded the POLYED Award for Achievement in Organic Chemistry.

Naomi Pernicone was awardedthe 2009 Undergraduate Award in Analytical Chemistry.

Daniel Infield was awarded the American Institute of Chemists Foundation Outstanding Senior Award.
