STUDENT AWARDS & HONORS Senior Honors - 2009 Mary Jane Simpson (Chemistry) and Daniel Infield (Biochemistry) were honored as the department's Outstanding Seniors at the Annual Senior Honors Banquet held on April 16, 2009. At the 2009 Academic Honors Convocation, the follwoing awards were presented to the following outstanding studentsf from the Department of Chemistry: Lyudmila Cheban was awarded the Chemical Rubber Corporation Award for Achievement in Freshman Chemistry. John Parker Chapman was awarded the POLYED Award for Achievement in Organic Chemistry. Naomi Pernicone was awarded the 2009 Undergraduate Award in Analytical Chemistry. Daniel Infield was awarded the American Institute of Chemists Foundation Outstanding Senior Award.
Darash Desai (Biochemistry) and Ashely Morris (Chemistry), were both honored as the department's Outstanding Seniors at the annual Honors Banquet held on April 10, 2008. At the 2008 Academic Honors Convocation, the following awards were presented to the following outstanding students from the Department of Chemistry: John Parker Chapman and Caitlann Adair Peterson were awarded the Chemical Rubber Corporation Award for Achievement in Freshman Chemistry. Naomi Pernicone was awarded the POLYED Awarrd for Achievement in Organic Chemistry. Mary Jane Hartmeyer received the 2008 Undergraduate Award in Analytical Chemistry. Christina Schafer was the recipient of the 2008 American Institute of Chemists Foundation Outstanding Senior Award.
C. Taylor Lewis and Gail A. Ferek, were both recognized and honored as the department's Outstanding Biochemisty Majors at this year's awards banquet. At the 2007 Academic Honors Convocation, the following awards were made to the following outstanding students of the department: Michael R. Quackenbush and Amanda J. Price were awarded the Chemical Rubber Corporation Award for Achievement in Freshman Chemistry. Mary Jane Hartmeyer was awarded the POLYED Award for Achievement in Organic Chemistry. Darash G. Desai received the 2007 Undergraduate Award in Analytical Chemistry. C. Taylor Lewis received the 2007 American Institute of Chemists Foundation Outstanding Senior Award.
DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI PROGRAM VISITORS: April 12, 2007, Dr. William L. Jackson, Jr. - (SU '93) presented a seminar entitled "The role of the Intensivits in the Care of Modern Combat Trauma Victims". April 25, 2006, Major August Way Fountain, III - (SU '85) - Department of Chemistry, West Point Military Academy, spoke about his experiences as an Army chemist in the field and in the classroom. The student members of the American Chemical Society (ACS), performed their bi-annual Magic Show to area elementary school students and Boy Scout Troops, on the campus of Stetson University, in Sage Hall. This event, typically held during the Spring and Fall semesters, is a great opportunity to present youngsters with the marvels of Chemistry.
