Posting Policy
Thinking about posting flyers or announcements around campus? Make sure you read and follow Stetson Univeristy's posting policy ahead of time to understand what and where advertisements can go around campus. Any person(s) who post flyers or announcements has the responsibility to adhere to the posting guidelines set forth in the Stetson University Posting Policy.
General Statement
In the interest of maintaining an environment that is consistent with the mission of the University, the University reserves the right to determine appropriate location and manner of all display materials including goods, posters, banners, backdrops, etc. The purpose of this set of procedures is to outline guidelines for the general posting and distribution of publicity material(s), as well as guidelines for the use of designated places on campus for the posting of said material(s).
Announcements of general information to the student body of the University by recognized student organizations, University departments, programs or committees are the type of material(s) permitted. All other types of announcements will be removed unless special permission is obtained by the Office of Student Involvement.
Posting Flyers
All flyers are to contain:
- The name of the Recognized Student Organization who is hosting the event
- Date
- Time
- Location
- Contact person or group information for the advertised event
Flyers or announcements may NOT contain any of the following:
- References to Alcohol
- References to Drugs
- Racial or Discriminatory Language
- Graphics or Language of a Derogatory Sexual Nature
Individual flyers do not need prior approval as long as they meet the guidelines set forth in the Stetson University Student Posting Policy.
Flyers or announcements, other than banners, are limited to a maximum dimension of (20"x25").
Flyers or announcements must be removed within (24) hours of the advertised event(s).
Flyers or announcements may NOT be thrown about around campus as to create a littered look or area.
Distributions of flyers or announcements through the Stetson University Post Office are to be used for academic or departmental uses in accordance with the Student Government Association standards.
Posting Locations
A list of approved posting sites can be found on the Student Development and Campus Vibrancy website.
Approved catalog boards are specially marked with an Office of Student Development and Campus Vibrancy maintenance sign.
Some areas of the Stetson University campus require special permission; please see the approved list of posting sites available on the Office of Student Involvement website.
NO flyer or announcement may be attached to any following, including but not limited too:
- Walls (Interior or Exterior)
- Windows
- Doors
- Street Signs
- Poles
- Trees
Alternative Posting Methods
Banners
Banner space can be reserved through Student Development and Campus Vibrancy's website and is available on a first come, first served basis. Banners may only stay up for a period of one (1) week; special permission may be obtained through Student Development and Campus Vibrancy for periods longer than one (1) week.
The owner of the banner is responsible for hanging and removing their banner in a manner that is safe and non-destructive to the campus (i.e. no tape or other adhesives are allowed).
Sidewalk Chalk
Sidewalk Chalk is permitted for use only by recognized University organizations who have received prior approval from the Student Development and Campus Vibrancy.
Chalking may only take place in limited areas of the campus. Those who are granted permission must also remove chalking at the end of his/her reservation. Under no circumstances may any type of adhesive be used to make the chalk adhere to the sidewalks. (This includes, but is not limited to: hairspray, glue, etc )
Digital Billboards
These are located in the Carlton Union Building or the Lynn Business Center.
Items posted in the ground or in/on trees
Items with small wooden stakes can under special circumstances be approved by Student Development and Campus Vibrancy and Facilities Management. Requests should be made through Student Development and Campus Vibrancy. Items placed in ground are limited to a 48 hour window. Items placed in trees are limited to a (1) week reservation.
