Welcome Incoming Students!
August 17 - 21, 2013
What is FOCUS?
F.O.C.U.S. stands for "Friends On Campus Uniting Students." It's a five day comprehensive orientation program designed to help new and transfer students have a successful transition to the university. All first-year students and transfers with less than 24 credit hours will begin their First Year Seminar during F.O.C.U.S. This unique opportunity allows you to connect to your faculty and get adjusted to the academic rigor at Stetson University right away.
For the rest of F.O.C.U.S., each student will be placed into a "FOCUS Group" of about 30 students led by two outstanding returning students who have been at Stetson University for at least a year and who have a strong desire and passion to show new students the ropes.
During the five days of F.O.C.U.S., students will be able to take care of all of their needs, such as meeting with their academic advisor, getting their student ID and parking decal, setting up their email and Internet access, and purchasing their books for class; all while meeting new people, learning their way around campus and having fun!
What is the purpose of FOCUS?
The purpose of F.O.C.U.S. is simply to make the transition to Stetson University easier for both students and their families. Beginning college can be a new and sometimes stressful experience; however, F.O.C.U.S. is here to help everyone get better acquainted with Stetson University and learn what it truly means to be a Hatter.
Before You Arrive
Before you arrive for F.O.C.U.S., take a look at the Accepted Student Checklist, provided by the Office of Admissions. This checklist will tell you everything you need to get done prior to checking in on August 18. Bookmark it or print it out so you don't miss anything!
What to Expect
This year's final schedule will be uploaded at the end of June, but feel free to take a look at the "at a glance" schedule by choosing one of the links below. There you will find principal events and details so you can feel prepared for the week's events. Overall, the schedule will remain about the same... the only substantial changes will be additional entertainment and programming. It is always carefully put together to give you the right balance of learning, study time and fun in the evening so you can get out of your rooms and begin making new friends and memories.
How do I get to campus from the airport?
Stetson University is proud to offer free transportation service to and from the Orlando International Airport (MCO/OIA) during F.O.C.U.S. Orientation for students and their families.
Where can my parents and family stay while in town?
Stetson University does not allow parents and family members to stay in the residence halls with their student during F.O.C.U.S. The area lodging page includes a variety of accommodation styles and price levels in and around the DeLand area.
