Scott Bruin has over three decades of operating experience in the financial services industry. Prior to becoming an owner and the executive managing partner at CapTrust, he spent over two decades at Smith Barney-Citigroup with an additional assignment at Wells Fargo Advisors. In the mid 2000s, he moved to New York to lead the Planning Group businesses at Global Wealth Advisory Services for Citi-Smith Barney. This group included 18 offices nationally, staffed with senior estate planning attorneys, CPAs, business valuation specialists, planning analysts and program development officers.
His career in the financial services industry began as a financial consultant at Smith-Barney in 1986 where he worked with high net worth individuals and small businesses. His subsequent experience includes managing the Sarasota, Fla. and Tucson, Ariz. private client offices for the firm. In 1999, he moved to Houston, Tex. to manage Smith-Barney's downtown office that included institutional equity and fixed income, international focus, high net worth private clients, and corporate services business.
Prior to financial services, Bruin spent 10 years in the consumer products industry with London International Group and its legacy firms.
Bruin is a 1975 graduate of Stetson University, where he has served on the Alumni Board for over a decade and is now president. Additionally, he is the past president of the Texas Gulf Coast Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. He also served as the chairperson of fundraising for the Challenger Learning Center’s children's math and science program, based at the Pima Air and Space Museum in Tucson, Ariz.
He has been married to his wife, Ann, for 25 years and has three children—Charlie (Stetson University, 2006), Dan and Alison. Ann and Scott reside in St. Petersburg, Fla.
