Dr. Leigh Baker

Dr. Leigh Baker, joined Student Counseling Services staff in Fall 2017 as Director. She is a Licensed Psychologist and has worked for eight years in college mental health including at the University of Central Florida, Tarleton State University, Georgia State University, and her alma mater, Florida State University. She also served as Assistant Director of the Student Student Counseling Services at Tarleton State University. Dr. Baker has supported students with a wide-range of concerns using a person-centered, collaborative, evidence-based, and culturally sensitive approach. As a first-generation college student and Honors student, she understands both the challenges and the gifts of higher education. Dr. Baker believes in the importance of mentorship support, wellness, and personal resiliency in students’ academic success and personal growth. Therefore, she fulfils her role by supporting both individual Hatters at Student Counseling Services and our Hatter community through partnership in mental health and wellness initiatives across campus. “We all go to college for the degree, but what we are really doing is finding out who we are, what values we hold, and what we want our life to be about. My job is to help you access the supports and develop the skills you need to navigate this journey.”
