Fall 2014 Move-In Information

Prior to Arrival

Before coming to campus, be sure you have:

Check-In Information

Move-in day is an exciting time for students and their families, and we're greatly looking forward to your arrival. Check-in for Housing and Residential Life will be at the Hollis Center. Please come with a photo ID so we can issue you keys. In order to keep things moving smoothly, we ask that only you, the student, and not your whole family, wait in line for check-in. Once you have your keys you can go to your residence hall and begin to get settled in.

HOME Team

We want to make sure you feel the warmth of the Hatter community and not just the Florida sun from the moment you first arrive at your residence hall. A group of your fellow students, known as the HOME Team, arrives on campus the night before new student move-in day to be ready to greet you and to help you move in.

Getting Settled

Getting set up in your room is an important first step. We encourage you to reach out to your roommate(s) prior to move-in day to discuss some basic ideas about how to set up the room to your shared preferences. An empty room is full of possibilities and is just waiting for you to add your personal touch. Remember that bunking or lofting your beds (loft kits are available in your residence hall - see the posted signs or ask an R.A. for where to find one) can really open up the floor space.

Also, be sure to read the Guide to Residential Living for policies related to room setup and decorations. The What to Bring list is another great resource you should read before move-in day.

Furry Friends

Stetson University is a pet-friendly campus. It's important to remember that only Nemec Hall, Stetson Cove Apartments and the 300 building of the University Village Apartments are pet-friendly, so any pets that are helping to send you off to college need to remain outside of the other residence halls and check-in area. All pets must have received prior approval by Housing and Residential Life to live with you in the pet-friendly residence halls, so please be sure you have gone through that process before bringing your pet with you to campus. We're not accepting applications for new pets at this time.

Early Arrivals

A lot goes into preparing for 1,900 students' arrival and it's very important that university staff have ample time to finish renovation and maintenance projects, prepare the buildings and train the R.A.'s so that we're ready when you arrive. We post our move-in days early in the spring semester so that you can plan accordingly. Outside of those students who are returning because of their involvement in university-required functions, all new students need to plan to check in on Saturday, August 16 (Sunday, August 17 for returning students).

Residents who are part of an approved early arrival group don't need to submit an individual request this year; your group leader will request your participation.

Other students may request an early return, but exceptions are rarely given. Residents approved for an early return are subject to a $50 per day early arrival fee and must participate as a HOME Team member. To request access to the Early Arrival form and information on Housing Central email reslife@stetson.edu. Being a member of the HOME Team will give you the opportunity to help out your fellow Hatters and arrive on Friday, August 15 without the per day early arrival fee.

Construction Notice

The north wing of Emily Hall and Chaudoin Hall are all under construction this summer and won't be ready until the general move-in days. Unless you're part of a pre-approved university group, we're not able to approve early arrivals in those buildings. If you're part of one of those groups, we appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we look for temporary spaces on campus for you until those halls open on move-in day.

New Students

Whether you're a first-year or transfer student, bring your photo ID and check in at the Hollis Center from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 16.

Returning Students

Bring your photo ID and check in at the Housing and Residential Life central office at University Hall (644 North Woodland Boulevard) from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 17. Check-in can also occur during normal business hours from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday throughFriday at University Hall the following week.

Early Arrival Requests

Residents approved for an early return are subject to a $50 per day early arrival fee and must participate as a HOME Team member. To request access to the Early Arrival form and information on Housing Central email reslife@stetson.edu. Members of the HOME Team will have the chance to help out your fellow Hatters and arrive on Friday, August 15 without the per day early arrival fee.
