Fees and Fines

Fees

Students

All fees, including those assessed for parking violations, will be assessed to your student account and a hold will be placed on registration and/or graduation until they are paid in full.

Faculty, Staff and Visitors

If you receive a ticket for a parking violation, it may be paid at the Public Safety office, located at 405 North Amelia Avenue on the DeLand campus.

Registration Fees

Vehicle Registration

Students

Vehicle registration fees are $75.00 for students.

Student parking permits are valid for one year and expire on August 15. All parking fees/fines are attached to each individual person's account and must be paid at the Office of Student Accounts in Elizabeth Hall. Residential students who change halls during the academic year must obtain a new parking permit if they change zones. In this case, there is no charge for a new permit.

Faculty and Staff

There is no charge for faculty and staff parking permits.

Faculty and staff parking permits are valid for two years and expire on February 1.

Replacement Parking Permits

Additional or replacement parking permits are available for a fee of $1.00.

Bicycles

Registration permits for bicycles are free of charge, can be obtained at any time and are permanent as long as the permit is affixed to the bicycle.

Violations

Non-Registration

Fine - $75.00

Parking a vehicle on campus without obtaining the proper parking permit from the Office of Public Safety. This rule is enforced at all times.

Non-Compliance

Fine - $30.00

Not having the parking permit properly affixed and/or displayed on the vehicle, as previously stated on the Rules and Regulations page under "Proper Display of Parking Permits." This rule is enforced at all times.

Falsification

Fine - $60.00

Giving false or misleading information to obtain a parking permit, and any erroneous display of a parking permit. This includes, but is not limited to, displaying a permit not registered to you, giving an incorrect tag number when registering and failing to notify Public Safety upon change of status (e.g., commuter to resident or resident to commuter). This rule is enforced at all times. Providing false information to a campus staff member is a violation of the Student Code of Community Standards. All violations of the Student Code of Community Standards are referred to the campus judicial officer for appropriate action.

Parking in a Faculty/Staff Space

Fine - $35.00

Parking for any amount of time in a faculty/staff space without having the correct parking permit. This rule is enforced Monday through ­Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Parking in a Visitor Space

Fine - $35.00

Any registered vehicle parking in a visitor space for any amount of time. This rule is enforced at all times.

Parking in a Commuter Space

Fine - $35.00

Parking in a commuter parking space without having the correct parking permit. This rule is enforced Monday through ­Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Parking in a Prohibited Student Zone

Fine - $35.00

Any registered vehicle parking in a prohibited zone for any amount of time without having the proper parking permit for that area. Commuter student parking spaces are enforced Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Resident parking spaces are enforced at all times.

Parking in a Reserved Space

Fine - $35.00

Parking for any amount of time in a space that is designated as reserved without the proper parking permit. Reserved areas include, but are not limited to, designated special purpose areas (as identified by signs markings or Public Safety barricades/cones); the Best Apartments; and any other Stetson University-owned property which is leased by tenants. This includes designated carpool space; in addition, the vehicle will be towed. This rule is enforced at all times.

Parking in a Handicapped Space

Fine - $100.00

Any vehicle parked in a handicapped space for any amount of time, as designated by signs and markings, without a handicapped sticker, license plate or parking permit. A violator parked in a handicapped space will be towed. This rule is enforced at all times.

Parking/Driving on the Grass

Fine - $30.00

Parking or driving for any amount of time in an unpaved area not designated as a parking area or any other landscaped area. This rule is enforced at all times.

Parking in a Fire Lane

Fine - $100.00

Parking or leaving a vehicle unattended for any amount of time in an area designated as a fire lane by yellow curb markings or signs. A fire lane violator will be towed immediately at the owner's expense. This rule is enforced at all times.

Improper Parking

Fine - $30.00

Any vehicle that is parked improperly. Examples of parking improperly include: not parking within the designated lines, obstructing the normal flow of traffic and parking on a sidewalk or any other area not designated as a parking space. This rule is enforced at all times.

Appeals

If you received a parking ticket which you feel is unjust, you may make an appeal to the University Traffic Appeals Board, which consists of three student members of the Student Conduct Board. All citations can be appealed.

Procedure for Making an Appeal

All appeals must be submitted in person at the Public Safety office, located at 405 North Amelia Avenue on the DeLand campus. The appropriate form must be used, and it must be submitted within ten business days of the date appearing on the ticket or the right to appeal is forfeited. If you fail to supply all required information on the appeal form, you will not be called to the board. After the appeal has been filed, a meeting of the University Traffic Appeal Board will be scheduled and communicated with you via email. The board hears appeals during the fall and spring terms.

All decisions of the University Traffic Appeals Board are final.
