Memorial Tree Program
Honor a Loved One With a Memorial Tree
Trees accompanied by granite markers are located across Stetson University's DeLand campus. These trees were planted, and their markers set, by the generous donation of individuals who sought to honor and memorialize a loved one.
Popular species are often Florida natives, and include oaks and magnolia grandifloras. Both species have long life expectancies are are very hearty. A dedicated, reclaimed water irrigation line is often installed at the base of each tree.
The markers, composed of black granite, are placed at ground level by the tree. Up to five lines of engraving space is available on each marker. See the photos on this page for an example.
Once the tree and marker are in place, many families choose to have them dedicated. The University Chaplain is often called upon to offer words of inspiration as family and friends gather for such an occasion.
