Buying a Computer?
If you are considering buying a computer, Apple and Dell both offer discount programs for Stetson students, staff and faculty purchases:
Anti-Virus Software
You do not need to purchase anti-virus software as Microsoft offers a free solution called Microsoft Security Essentials.
Minimum Specifications
If you are planning to buy a computer, please be aware of the following minimum requirements:
- All laptops must have wireless capability; all desktops must have Ethernet connectivity
- 40 GB hard drive (or larger)
- Optical disk drive (CD or CD/DVD drive)
- Microsoft Windows XP or later (PC); Mac OS X 10.6 or later (Apple)
While not required, you may find it convenient to have Microsoft Office installed on your computer. If you would prefer to avoid the expense, Open Office is a similar open source suite of applications that are similar to Microsoft Office. There are also web-based solutions such as Google Docs available, most of which are free.
