 How to Apply for Aid

To be eligible for most financial assistance programs, you must:
  • Apply for admission to Stetson University
  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
  • Be making satisfactory academic progress
  • Be registered with the Selective Service, if required to do so
  • Not be in default on a loan or owe a repayment on a previous federal or state grant
  • Be accepted as a degree or certificate-seeking student
  • Be enrolled at least half time

If you meet these eligibility requirements, you are ready to apply for aid! To do so, request a financial assistance packet from the Office of Financial Aid. This packet includes the Financial Assistance Information Form and a FAFSA on the Web Preapplication Worksheet. The FAFSA is available at most high school guidance offices and online at the FAFSA website.

Complete the FAFSA online and send the Financial Assistance Information Form to Stetson University as soon as possible after January 1. Applications received by March 15 receive priority consideration. Make sure to indicate Stetson's Federal School Code -- 001531 -- on your FAFSA to ensure that we receive the results of your application. Graduate students should complete the Post-Bac/Graduate Financial Assistance Information and Enrollment Form.

Helpful tips for completing your application

  1. Be sure to complete and submit all requested forms. In addition to the Financial Assistance Information Form and the FAFSA, you may also have to submit signed copies of all student and parent income tax forms or non-filer forms. Please do not submit tax information if it is not requested.
  2. Be aware of deadlines and meet them. Missing a deadline for a financial assistance program may mean losing an opportunity to receive student aid. Your FAFSA and Stetson Financial Assistance Information Form are both due as soon as possible after January 1. Submit them by March 15 for priority consideration.
  3. Complete all forms accurately. Forms with incorrect information may not be processed and must be corrected before financial aid can be determined.
  4. Respond promptly to all correspondence you receive from Stetson University, the federal processor, or the state. The sooner a file is complete, the sooner an award can be made.
  5. Keep copies of all forms you complete. These copies are helpful for reference purposes, and they can safeguard against having to fill out new forms in the event that information is missing.
