Federal Verification

Federal Verification is a process mandated by the U.S. Department of Education to ensure the accuracy of the data submitted by applicants of the FAFSA. This process helps to ensure that Federal financial aid is awarded to eligible students based on an equitable and consistent manner. Approximately 30% of all FAFSA applicants are selected for Verification.

For the 2018-2019 FAFSA application, we are pleased to announce that we have established a partnership with Inceptia to expedite the federal verification process by utilizing the Verification Gateway online portal. If your 2018-2019 FAFSA application is selected for verification by the U.S Department of Education, you will receive an introductory email to the email address you provided on the FAFSA. If no email was provided, you will receive an introductory postcard. The postcard will have Stetson's logo along with Inceptia’s, so you will know it is official.

How to complete verification

2017-2018 FAFSA (Current Year)

The information that details which documents that need to be completed will be available on your account in your One Stop Checklist on your MyStetson page. These will appear as "Unsatisfied Requirements" under the "Eligibility" tab. Please be sure to check your MyStetson regularly until verification is completed in case additional information is required.

2018-2019 FAFSA (Next Year)

If your 2018-2019 FAFSA application is selected for verification by the U.S Department of Education, you will receive an introductory email to the email address you provided on the FAFSA. If no email was provided, you will receive an introductory postcard. The postcard will have Stetson's logo along with Inceptia’s, so you will know it is official.

Important Information-What Happens Next?

A custom school link will be included in the introductory communication requesting you access Verification Gateway. You will need to do the following*:

  • Confirm your identity (authentication).
  • Create a secure username and password.
  • Decide if you want to receive text messages and approve to e-sign.
  • Access your Action List and begin the verification process (the list may consist of some combination of online forms and the request to upload specific documents to Verification Gateway).

*Dependent students that provided parental information on the FAFSA are required to have one parent also authenticate and create an account. This parent will be required to e-sign or provide an ink signature once all documentation has been submitted.

Upon receipt of all required documents, Inceptia will begin the verification process. Students will be notified if there are any questions or if any additional documentation is required via email, text or postcard. Once verification has been completed, the student and our school will be notified.

Questions

If you have any questions about the verification process, please contact Inceptia, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am-5:00 pm Central at 888-374-8427 or by email at VGCS@inceptia.org. You may also visit the Office of Student Financial Planning in the One Stop located in the Rinker Welcome Center, Second Floor.

Deadline and Consequences of Missed Deadlines

All documentation needed to complete the verification process must be submitted within 180 days after the last day of enrollment for the 2017-2018 academic year, or by August 31, 2018, whichever comes first. Failure to submit requested documentation may result in cancellation of aid previously offered. Federal student financial assistance (e.g. Fed. Pell Grant, Fed. Direct Subsidized Loans, Perkins loan, Stetson Grants, Fed. Work-Study, etc.) cannot be processed or credited to the student's account until the verification process is completed.

Any differences between the information entered on the verification form, other requested documents, and the FAFSA may result in a new determination of financial need. This new determination of financial need may impact the student's financial aid award and eligibility. Applicants with Spring 2018 as their last term must submit all documents by August 31, 2018. The Summer 2018 session applicants' deadline is September 23, 2018.

Notification of Completion of Verification

Upon receipt of all required documents, Inceptia will begin the verification process. Students will be notified if there are any questions or if any additional documentation is required via email, text or postcard. Once verification has been completed, the student and our school will be notified.

Once your verification is completed, the Office of Student Financial Planning will notify you by email. At this time, you will be informed if there are any changes that need to be made to your FAFSA or financial aid award.
