| Scene II: Updating the Basics | ||
The immediate priority is to update and renovate the existing Stover Theatre. Stover has been renovated several times in the past to deal with both cosmetic and safety issues, but the renovation/expansion now on the drawing board would do more, adding greatly to Stover’s ability to serve students and theater patrons. Needed improvements to the existing theater include providing better access for handicapped persons; eliminating moisture penetration; re-arranging basement offices for efficiency; remodeling and improving the lobby area; replacing auditorium carpet and painting the ceiling; upgrading auditorium seating; replacing stage curtains; adding a metal catwalk for safer access to the lighting array; and upgrading the sound system.
Currently Stover Theatre serves multiple purposes: rehearsal and performance hall for productions, classroom, student rehearsal space, and scene shop. It is nearly always busy.
Expansion plans include a scene shop and black box theater, as donor funding becomes available. These would partly replace scene shop facilities lost in previous renovations and provide an enhanced classroom and experimental theatre space, which better suits the demands of today’s theater. |
