Jack's Mannequin

images/Jacks.jpg
He's the ethereal voice, songwriting powerhouse and full-contact keyboardist behind Something Corporate, the piano-rock quintet praised by one critic for its "combination of intelligent lyrics, infectious melodies and killer piano." Now Andrew McMahon is taking something of a spring break from the band with which he's practically lived for the last four years in order to offer up an angst-flavored side project. In the guise of Jack's Mannequin comes Everything in Transit (release date: 8/23/05 on Maverick Records), a highly personal theme album by McMahon and collaborators. It's clear that, like his longtime band, McMahon's latest venture defies an easy pigeonhole.

Josh Blue has been a fast-rising star since first appearing on Comedy Central's "Mind of Mencia" before gaining the attention and endearment of the country as a favorite on NBC's "Last Comic Standing". Josh is a diverse and triumphant individual - hilarious stand-up comedian, stand-out guest star on television, talented artist, and stellar U.S. Paralympic Soccer player - refusing to bow to any of the challenges that come from living with Cerebral Palsy.

Blue jokes, "I realize that people are going to stare so I want to give them something to stare at." Josh uses his incredible sense of humor and versatile persona to defy stereotypes and encourage others to overcome their preconceived notions about people who are considered "disabled". His unique brand of "reverse teasing" affords him the great joy of "humbling condescending people".

Frank Warren's "PostSecret"

images/frankwarren.jpg

The concept behind PostSecret is simple: a person anonymously decorates a postcard with a secret they've never shared before. There are no restrictions to the secret, as long as it's truthful and has never been admitted before. This idea blew up from a small community mail art project to a website deemed "10th most popular site amongst female students in the USA" by Youth Trends in 2008. Each week, Frank Warren posts secrets from people all over the country. Some bring laughter, others bring tears, yet they all are submissions from the heart. Five books of secrets have been published, and now Frank Warren has taken his secrets on tour. He will be speaking about the secrets in our society, and giving students a chance to share secrets of their own.
