Non-Discrimination Policy Statement

The Counseling Center abides by Stetson University's Non-Discrimination Policy. To summarize, the Counseling Center will not discriminate against any individuals, particularly "on the basis of sex, disability, race, age, religion, color, national or ethnic origin, ancestry, marital status, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, genetic information, physical characteristics, or any other category protected by federal, state, or local law."

Diversity & Inclusion

At the Counseling Center, the diversity of students and staff is valued. The Counseling Center views diversity as representing the many different cultural and social groups within our society and the world.

It is understandable that some students may feel uneasy about seeking counseling assistance due to concern of being judged or misunderstood. The counseling staff strives to create an inclusive and welcoming environment which allows students to feel more comfortable exploring their mental health concerns in a culturally-sensitive environment. The staff also works to follow the multicultural standards set forth by the American Counseling Association and other professional organizations in which the staff are members.

Students with diverse backgrounds may seek counseling services for a wide variety of concerns. Some concerns include:

  • Adjustment to a new cultural and social environment
  • Homesickness and difficulties with separating from family and friends
  • Difficulties as a member of a minority group on campus
  • Discrimination

All students are encouraged to schedule an appointment in which you may to talk about these or any other concerns you may have. In addition to the Counseling Center services, additional services and community resources may be identified and suggested to diverse students. Some of these resources include the Cross Cultural Center, Student Development & Campus Vibrancy, and WORLD: International Learning.
