STEAM Camps - First to Sixth Grade Programs

Learn to Read (Four-Year-Olds and Entering Kindergartners)

In this fun program, your child will learn to read. Your son or daughter will develop beginning reading skills and will be excited about learning to read. Your child will learn beginning phonics, easy sight words, simple words and sentences and develop a love for books and reading. The program includes five weeks of classroom instruction led by an experienced teacher. Between the weekly lessons, your child will continue to build skills and a love of reading through interactive online instruction.

Make First Grade a Big Success (Entering First Graders)

In this fun program, your child will learn to read independently and will develop the skills and confidence to make first grade a big success. Your child will learn phonics and sight words, build comprehension, learn to read independently and develop a love of books and reading. The program includes five weeks of classroom instruction led by an experienced teacher and independent reading in some of the best books for beginning readers. Between the weekly lessons, your child will continue to build skills through interactive online instruction that is tailored to your child’s reading level.

In this fun program, your child will become a fluent, enthusiastic reader. Your son or daughter will enjoy reading and develop the skills and confidence that will make second grade a big success. Your child will learn phonics & word-attack skills, develop fluency, build comprehension and become a confident, enthusiastic reader. The program includes five weeks of classroom instruction led by an experienced teacher and independent reading in some of the best books for beginning readers. Between the weekly lessons, your child will continue to build skills through interactive online instruction that is tailored to your child’s reading level.

Engineering for Kids Camp – Aerospace Engineering: Academy of Space Explorers (Grades First to Sixth - Select Grade of your student)

Future NASA Engineer? Critical thinking and problem solving skills are enhanced through FUN, age appropriate, inquiry based, hands-on STEM related projects. Your budding engineer will be introduced to the field of engineering, basic concepts of engineering as it relates to the science of aircraft and spacecraft by utilizing the Engineering Design Process to design and construct their own rockets, parachutes, and hot air balloons, which they get to keep!

Engineering for Kids Camp – Coding Games in Scratch (Grades First to Sixth - Select Grade of your student)

Don’t just play video games, MAKE them! Programming and coding are becoming necessary skills for various fields of engineering. In this coding adventure, students create fun animated stories and games while learning essential programming concepts with MIT's Scratch programming software. Using sprites and blocks, this drag-and-drop platform sets a foundation of computational thinking. No previous programming knowledge needed.

DATES/TIMES: June 11-15, 2018. Half Day 1 pm - 4 pm.

Engineering for Kids Camp – Cars: Momentum Madness (Grades First to Sixth - Select Grade of your student)

Zero to sixty in two seconds? How fast can an object go without compromising safety? Students in this camp will work with their Pit Crew to design and build vehicles, such as dragsters, roller coasters and rockets. Fasten your seat belt, the race has begun!

Engineering for Kids Camp – Intro to Robotics (Grades First to Sixth - Select Grade of your student)

Designed for younger campers, the LEGO® WeDo™ program introduces campers to robot design and programming utilizing basic machine principles to create robots capable of performing simple tasks. No robotics experience is necessary.

DATES/TIMES: June 18-22, 2018. Half Day 1 pm - 4 pm.

Engineering for Kids Camp – Wreck-It Week (Grades First to Sixth - Select Grade of your student)

Smash! Crash! BOOM! Students in this camp will join Wrecking Companies for the week and will attempt to work their way up the ranks of their company from Intern to President. They will compete against other wrecking companies in various engineering-related challenges, such as building a bridge from balsawood and constructing safety mechanisms to protect a raw egg from impact. Put on your hard hats and safety goggles and join the fun!

You will program your robots using the LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Education EV3 Software, which is based on National Instruments LabVIEW™, the industry-leading graphical programming language used by scientists and engineers worldwide!

Engineering for Kids Camp – 3D Modeling & Printing: Minecraft Creations (Grades Third to Sixth - Select Grade of your student)

3D printing and Minecraft both represent boundless opportunity for creating even our wildest of ideas! Explore the basic concepts of 3D printing and computer aided design, or CAD, to bring your most awesome Minecraft creation to life! Design your own 3D model in preparation for real 3D printing! At the end of the camp, you will walk away with your own models using a 3D printing pen, and your own Minecraft 3D model in a digital file that is ready for 3D printing! You can also continue to improve your design at home using the same TinkerCAD modeling software you learned at camp!

Engineering for Kids Camp – Adventures in Minecraft (Grades First to Sixth - Select Grade of your student)

Join your team of Master Engineers to solve a series of challenges such as building a city on a series of islands, escaping from a bunker on Mt. Everest, and even building a rocket to land on the moon! Learn to program “turtles” to automate Minecraft activities like mining, building a house, beacon, solar panels and more. Minecraft turtles have a set of commands that are part of the Lua programming language (Lua is an open source language built on top of C programming language). Take it to the next level and program subroutines. Through the application of engineering and math principles, you will solve numerous challenges every day in this Minecraft adventure.
