Purpose: The purpose of this group is to provide support, education, and enrichment for the community. We will provide support to those seeking to start or deepen their meditation practice. This is our main purpose: to cultivate stillness, sharpen our minds, and calm our lives. We will explore different Eastern religions, especially Buddhism and Zen Buddhism, and what they say about the self, mind, and the nature of reality. In order to do this we will take part in guided meditation each week at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Deland as well as keep up our own individual practice. We will provide education for anyone interested in our practice; anyone is welcome to join us at anytime and participate at whatever level they feel comfortable. Furthermore, we will work with other religious, philosophical, scientific, and service oriented groups on campus to facilitate an Eastern and Western dialogue through jointly sponsored events on campus. Finally, we will enrich the community through meaningful volunteer work that will make an impact on others and facilitate the deepening of our own humanity.
