Living Learning Communities (LLCs):

What is a LLC?

LLCs are created to enhance the residential and educational experience of students. Participants live together in a residence hall community and actively engage in fostering community growth by providing a holistic approach to student development and learning through academic partnerships, service-learning opportunities, research initiatives, and intentional and focused programming efforts.

Development topics and issues will be explored through initiatives designed specifically for FYE residents; including community engagement projects, workshops and other activities.

Housing Options:

GENDER NEUTRAL HOUSING OPTION

This option allows for persons of any gender to share common spaces within apartment style housing allowing for growth and personal reflection without the stereotypical gender boundaries of traditional on-campus housing options.  This offering provides less-gendered environments similar to ones you would find in off-campus apartments or personal homes.

  • Currently open to juniors, seniors, and graduate students living in the University Village Apartments.
  • Beginning Fall 2012, students in apartments, or in private or suite-style rooms within co-ed residence halls (such as Emily and Hall A), can choose to make their room/suite/apartment gender neutral.

PET FRIENDLY HOUSING OPTION

The Pet Friendly Housing is centered on students wishing to live on-campus with a pet. The focus of this community is to create that “home away from home” feel, while developing personal student accountability and promoting being responsible members of the community.

What is a pet?
Pets are defined as all living animals other than humans or service animals such as fish, rabbits, hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs, rats, mice, cats and dogs (under 50 pounds).

Where are Pets Permitted on Campus?
Acceptable pets (listed above) are allowed to live in the designated pet friendly areas. We have expanded pet-friendly housing as an option in multiple facilities for this year.  All other residential facilities must adhere to the University Pet Policy found within the Guide to Residential Living & information in the Housing Lease.  Pets, other than fish, are not allowed in non-designated pet friendly areas.  Dogs may not exceed fifty pounds in weight when fully grown. Pit bulls, Rottweiler, Chows, Akita and wolf breeds, or any mix containing these or any dog that displays aggressive behavior are not allowed on campus at any time.
