Dodgeball Rules

  1. Dodge ball's will be provided by Stetson IM department
  2. A team consists of 6 players. A minimum of 5 is required to start and continue a game.
  3. Matches consist of 3 games. Games are 8 minutes in duration. Teams will change sides after each game.
  4. The number of balls for a 12 player game is 6.
  5. Prior to the match, the referee will conduct a coin toss with both team captains to determine choice of ends.
  6. Players then take a position behind their end line. After a signal by the official, teams approach the centerlines to retrieve the balls.
  7. Balls must be taken back across the blue lines before they can be thrown at an opposing player. If the ball is not taken behind the end line before it is thrown the throw will not count.
  8. Players then attempt to eliminate members of the opposing team by tagging them out with the ball. If a player is hit with any ball that has not yet touched the floor, that player is "out".
  9. Play continues until one team is eliminated. At that point, the game is over.
  10. The balls are then reset on the centerline and play resumes when the whistle is blown.
  11. You must, win 2 of the 3 games to win the match.

RULES OF PLAY

  1. Any ball that touches the ceiling or wall is a dead ball.
  2. If a defender catches a "live" thrown ball the thrower is out and one player then returns to the defenders side in order of first out, first in.
  3. If a defender attempts to catch a live ball, but drops it, the defender is out.
  4. The defender may block a live ball with another ball. That ball is still a live ball however, until it hits the floor wall, or ceiling.
  5. A player may block a live ball, then throw the blocking ball down and catch a live ball.
  6. A player shall not leave the playing field to avoid being hit.
  7. Players who have been called out cannot retrieve stray balls for their teammates, or that ball will be given to the other team.
  8. Headshots resulting from a high thrown ball result in the thrower being called out. (A head shot is any ball hitting a player above the neck)
  9. A player hit in the head while ducking or dodging is out.
  10. Unsportsmanlike conduct will result in immediate ejection from the game.

EQUIPMENT

1. A team may wear apparel of their choice. However, shoes and shirts must be worn at all times.

  1. NO JEWELRY of any kind is permitted while participating in any Intramural activity.
