Intramural Baseball Rules

High School association and IM Sports rules will be used with the following exceptions:

Player Equipment:

- Metal baseball style cleats, or other footwear which in the judgment of the supervisor may cause injury to player or opponent, are not permitted.

- Catchers are required to wear protective cup. All other male players are encouraged to do so also.

- Catcher's shin guards, chest protector, & mask w/helmet will be provided for teams which do not have their own. (Possibly catcher's mitt)

- Bats, balls (game and warm-up), & batting helmets will be provided.

- Players are responsible for their own gloves although some are available through IM Sports and will be brought to the field.

- Teams are encouraged to wear matching, numbered shirts

Umpires: registered high school or properly trained intramural umpires will be employed for the tournament.

Length of Game:

- 6 inning games w/ 1 hour 45 minute time limit (no new inning after 1:45)

- Mercy rule: 15 runs after 3 innings, 10 runs after 4 innings.

Speed-up rules:

- Catchers must keep shin guards on, except when batting or a base runner, and will be replaced on base when there is one or more outs.

- Pitchers, including relief pitchers, will be limited to 5 warm-up pitches at the start of an inning.

- When no runners are on base, the batting team will retrieve all balls that get by the catcher.

- Batting team will immediately retrieve all balls which leave the field of play (fair or foul) and return them to the umpires.

Line ups and substitutions:

- Teams may bat up to three (3) extra hitters, and may play any 9 of the players in the batting order in the field in any inning.

- You must play the entire game with the same number of players in your batting order unless a player is injured and cannot continue.

- Other substitutions will be according to the high school reentry rule.

Pitchers:

- Pitchers will be limited to two (2) innings per game (one pitch in an inning counts as an inning pitched).

- New pitchers entering the game at the beginning of an inning should warm-up in the bull pen prior to the inning as only 5 warm-up pitches will be allowed.

Sperling Field practice/warm-up area: No warm-up ion the grass area between the fields. Pre game warm up on the outfield of the softball fields.
