5/5 Indoor Soccer Rules

Revised (03/10)

Players and Substitutions:

1. A full team is 5 players (NO GOALIES). Minimum number to avoid forfeit is 3. A team may continue to play if they drop below 3 players due to injury or ejection, as long as they have a reasonable chance to win the game.

2. Court players may be substituted at any time and exchange of players must occur at their team's defensive end.

3. Shoes are required, and shin guards are recommended by the IM department.

4. Players may only score if they shoot from in front of the midcourt (white) line.

Court & Ball:

1. The court will be ½ of the field house, end wall to end wall and curtain to wall on the sides with the goals (2' high x 6' wide x 4' deep) against the end walls.

2. The ball will be considered out of play if it passes over any sideline barrier or strikes the wall or any overhead obstacle above 8 feet. The ball will also be considered out of play if it stops behind the goals.

3. The no player zone will be 2' to each side of the goal and extended 3' out from the goal line. This no player zone is not to be occupied by any player. (If the ball stops inside of the no player zone, the official will place it at half court to resume play.)

5. The official game ball will be the Brine HV32 Indoor Soccer Ball, or another ball of mutual choosing by opponents.

Time & Overtime (Playoffs only)

1. The game will be two 15 minute halves, with 3 minute intermission.

2. The clock will be kept by the referee and will stop only for injuries, time outs (one 30 second per team per half), after a goal in the final minute of the game, and at the official's discretion.

3. In playoff games, if the score is tied after regulation time, a 5 minute sudden death period will be played until a winner is declared.

4. If no one scores during the sudden death round, then each team will be permitted a penalty kick from the midcourt line with no goalie present.

Free Kicks, Corner Kicks, and Goal Kicks

1. Indirect kicks will be administered as in outdoor soccer, except corner kicks will be indirect kicks and as amended below.

2. The defense must give 5 yards clearance on all kicks. If the indirect kick is within 5 yards of the no player zone, then the wall can be set up along the edge of the no player zone.

3. If the ball goes out of play on the side of the court, it is put in play by an indirect kick from the nearest spot.

4. If out of play on the end line or the ball is stopped behind the goal, it is put in play with a corner kick (indirect) or goal kick (indirect).

Penalty Enforcement:

1. Yellow and red cards will be awarded as in outdoor soccer and a player ejected from a game may not be replaced (teams will play shorthanded).

2. NO SLIDE TACKLES. A slide tackle will result in a minimum of an automatic yellow card (red card, if warranted).

3. If a player is in the no player zone a yellow card will be assessed and there will be an indirect kick from the midcourt line.

4. If a third player interjects between two players playing the ball along a long wall, it will result in an automatic yellow card.
