Certificate in Christian Studies
Deepen Your Knowledge of Christianity
Consider the energy and resources you have invested to gain knowledge in your professional field or other areas of interest. This non-credit certificate is an opportunity to devote that kind of academic rigor to your knowledge of the sacred texts and foundational teachings of Christianity.
Program of Study
This certificate program consists of four courses:
- OT 100 Old Testament Survey - Aug. 20 - Sept. 24, 2014
- NT 100 New Testament Survey - Oct. 8 - Nov. 12, 2014
- CT 100 Christian Theology and Ethics - Jan. 7 - Feb. 11, 2015
- CH 100 Church History - Feb. 25 - Apr. 1, 2015
Classes meet on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Each of the four courses would consist of six two-hour classes, for a total of 12 hours of instruction and group projects. Outside of each class, an average of three hours of reading, group discussion or writing would be expected. Certification is granted upon completion of all four courses. But feel free to participate in individual courses.
The Rev. Dr. Susan Bubbers has a bachelor of science degree in computer science, a master of divinity degree, a diploma in Anglican studies (DAS), a doctorate in ministry, and a Ph.D. from the London School of Theology. She was ordained as an Anglican priest in 1995, has served in both the parish and campus settings and has taught in undergraduate and graduate programs. She is a published author and conference speaker, and is currently the dean of the ATLAS theological center in Celebration, Fla.
The cost per course is $200, which is a total of $800 for the entire program. This is a non-credit program, which means the tuition is more economical. The following discounts are also available:
- $25 per course discount when a second member of your household registers.
- $25 per course discount if you refer someone and he/she registers for any Christian Studies course.
- You may register for just one course at a time, or receive a $50 discount by registering for the entire certificate at once.
The New Testament Survey course (NT 100) will study the books of the New Testament, including their basic message, authorship and cultural context, major historical figures, and relationship to other portions of the canon. The focus of these books is on the person of Jesus Christ and how his life gave rise to Christianity.
