Admissions 101 : Freshman Application Checklist

An application is considered complete when the following credentials have been submitted :

APPLICATION FEE. Nonrefundable application fees which must accompany all applications for admissions consists of three levels. The standard application fee is $40, however, this can be reduced to $20 when a Stetson University alumni writes a letter of recommendation for an applicant.

Payment options are in the form of a checks made payable to Stetson University or via an online credit/debit transaction (after completing our online application).

SCHOOL RECORDS AND RECOMMENDATIONS.
The only required letter of recommendation is from a high school guidance counselor. Freshman applicants should take a copy of the Secondary School Advisor Evaluation to the proper high school official to be completed and returned to the Office of Admissions. Although not required, applicants are more than welcome to submit letters written by coaches, employers, teachers, etc.

HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT(S). An official transcript must be sent in a sealed enveloped directly from your high school. Homeschooled students with questions should contact their admissions counselor.

STANDARDIZED TESTING.
All applicants for freshman admission are required to take either the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT I) or the American College Test (ACT). Scores should be sent to Stetson University (SAT code 5630 and ACT code 0756). We do not require the SAT II exam.

An Early Decision option is available to qualified potential freshman students who designate Stetson University as their first choice. The deadline for receipt of applications for Early Decision for the Fall semester is November 1. An Early Decision candidate must sign a contract indicating an intent to attend Stetson if accepted. Candidates will be notified about acceptance after November 15.

Essay
Choose one of the following topics and write a thoughtful essay of at least 250 words.

  • Discuss an issue of state, national or global concern to you.
  • If you could live your life fighting for one cause what would it be and why?
  • Describe a time you did not meet expectations and what impact did the experience have on you?
  • What gives meaning to your life?
  • If you wrote a letter to yourself to be opened in 20 years, what would it say?
