Transfer Student Application Checklist

The application deadline for the fall semester is June 15 and December 15 for the spring semester. An application is considered complete when the following credentials have been submitted :


APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION. Please type or print in ink for all mail-in applications. Stetson University also encourages the use of our online application, the Common Application, or College Link. No form is more preferred than any other.

APPLICATION FEE. A $25 fee must accompany all applications for admission. This fee is nonrefundable. Checks should be made payable to Stetson University. If you wish to pay the fee online, you must first complete our online application. If you cannot pay the fee, you may submit the College Board form Request for Waiver of College Application Fee or the NACAC Request for Waiver of Application Fee. Your high school counselor must use the ATP guidelines distributed by the College Board for the fee waiver.

TRANSCRIPT(S). Submit your high school transcript. It should contain a class rank and a cumulative grade point average. Additionally, you must submit an official copy of a transcript from each college attended. You should also submit a listing of courses in progress including name of class, course number, and number of credit hours.

STANDARDIZED TESTING. (Optional) All applicants with less than 30 credit hours are required to take either the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT I) or the American College Test (ACT). Your test scores must be submitted to Stetson in order to be considered for merit scholarship. You may choose not to have your test scores considered during the admission process as long as you identify this on your application for admission. Scores should be sent to Stetson University (SAT code 5630 and ACT code 0756). We do not require SAT II exam.

SHORT ANSWER AND ESSAY QUESTIONS.  Students are required to submit one of the following: Essay, Short Answers, or a Graded Paper. Please provide your full name, city and state on each page of your essay. You are welcome to email your completed essay to the Office of Admission at admissions@stetson.edu (Subject: Application Essay) or mail it to Office of Admission, 421 N. Woodland Blvd., Unit 8378, Deland, FL, 32723.

Select one of the following essay topics and provide us with a typed writing sample. This essay will be used in the evaluation of your admission to Stetson University and we highly recommend that you take your time and thoughtfully prepare your essay. 

  1. Discuss an issue of state, national or global concern to you.
  2. If you could live your life fighting for one cause, what would it be and why?
  3. Describe a time you did not meet expectations and what impact did the experience have on you?
  4. What gives meaning to your life?
  5. If you wrote a letter to yourself to be opened in 20 years, what would it say?

The following questions are short answer questions and will give us an opportunity to get to know you more. Please provide brief answers to the following questions:

  1. Where do you see yourself in ten years?
  2. Why are you the right fit for Stetson?
  3. What book that you've read recently would you recommend to a friend and why?
  4. What is something you are passionate about?
  5. If you were given 1 million dollars today what would you do with it?

Graded Writing Sample - Select a graded paper that you have written within the past year. This paper should include teacher's comments and/or grade received.
