ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
POSITION:
Stetson University seeks an innovative and dynamic Learning & Information Literacy Librarian for a full-time tenure-track appointment as an assistant professor. The ideal candidate understands technologies, learning theory, and how technology can best be used to teach research skills and promote information literacy. Demonstrated expertise and leadership in emerging learning technologies with an understanding of active engaged learning is especially desired.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Master of Library & Information Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution required. Second Masters degree preferred. In addition, the successful candidate should have the following: demonstrated potential or ability to engage in publication and professional service to meet University tenure and promotion requirements; knowledge of best practices, issues, and trends in teaching and learning in academic libraries, including trends in online learning and information tools and resources; demonstrated teaching or presentation experience and the ability to contribute to a growing and changing library instruction program; demonstrated skill with a variety of online tools such as lesson building software, content management systems, and learning management systems; ability to train librarians on new technologies available for instructional use; effective communication, interpersonal, presentation, organizational, and analytical skills; ability to manage projects and meet deadlines; and the ability to work flexibly and creatively in a changing environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position reports to the Head of Public Services. Duties include teaching library instruction classes; on-call research assistance shifts, including some nights and weekends; coordinating requests for library instruction; and designing, creating, and maintaining various learning objects, information literacy modules, and online tutorials. The Learning & Information Literacy Librarian will be expected to give special attention to the following:
- Coordinate and assess the library's research instruction program, including working with faculty to incorporate library research skills into the classrooms as well as working with the Associate Vice President for Boundless Learning on embedded librarians in online courses.
- With the Head of Public Services and research librarians, and in consultation with other campus innovators, develop learning and emerging technologies to integrate into the library's instruction program.
- In consultation with the Library Dean and the Head of Public Services, maintain the library's online presence, including the library's website and social media outlets.
- Maintain and assess an information literacy program in consultation with research librarians, University faculty members, and established University committees working to include information literacy competencies into the general education program.

THE LIBRARY:
The duPont-Ball Library (http://stetson.edu/library) has a collection of approximately 395,000 print volumes and a large collection of electronic journals, databases, and e-books, as well as a collection of scores and recordings in support of the School of Music. The library staff includes 8 library faculty members and 16 support staff. The library is a member of LYRASIS and uses Sirsi's integrated system. A growing Archives and Special Collections initiative uses ContentDM software. The ongoing library fundraising program has resulted in library endowments totaling almost $2 million in the last ten years. Librarians are tenure-track faculty members who hold leadership positions on campus committees and are actively engaged in scholarly activities, professional organizations and service.
THE COMMUNITY:
DeLand is a picturesque residential community of 25,000 located 20 miles west of Daytona Beach and 35 miles northeast of Orlando. The area offers extensive cultural as well as recreational activities.
