STETSON UNIVERSITY
COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES
INTEGRATIVE HEALTH SCIENCE DEPARTMENT
CHAIR AND ASSOCIATE/FULL PROFESSOR (tenure-track)
POSITION:
Stetson University invites applications for Chair of the Department of Integrative Health Science for appointment at the associate or full professor level beginning in fall 2013. We seek a broadly trained, mid-career teacher-scholar who specializes in biological/health science with an international and/or public health focus.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Degree requirement is a Ph.D. in a health science-related field or a Dr.P.H. with demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduates in core courses in integrative health science (e.g., health and wellness, human anatomy and physiology, exercise physiology, biostatistics, research techniques, research proposal preparation, and/or research project execution) to undergraduate students, as well as courses in the candidate's areas of expertise. We are especially interested in a colleague with an international or public health focus, which may include (but is not limited to) epidemiology, biostatistics, or environmental health. The successful candidate will also have strong interpersonal, organizational, communication, and administrative skills; at least eight years of teaching experience; a solid record of academic leadership; and a successful record of mentoring junior faculty members. Particularly important is experience in providing vision and leadership at the department, school, and university levels for innovative interdisciplinary programs, as Stetson embarks on new health initiatives. Additionally, the candidate should have an active scholarly agenda, a record of scholarly publication and related activity, and research that could incorporate student investigation at a liberal arts university. Interest in innovative teaching techniques, collaborative research, and contributing to the pre-health program is advantageous. Previous experience as a department chair is preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary teaching responsibilities include core courses in integrative health science, as well as courses in the candidate's areas of expertise. Other courses may include offerings for the University's requirements in General Education, including courses for First Year Seminars and Junior Seminars. For more information on our expectations in teaching, please see the Academic Affairs website: http://www.stetson.edu/administration/academic-affairs/newfac.php
THE DEPARTMENT:
The Department of Integrative Health Science (http://www.stetson.edu/other/academics/programs/integrative-health-science.php) is a growing, dynamic, innovative department that currently supports a major and a minor in integrative health science. Our focus is currently exclusively on undergraduate students who desire rigorous training within the context of a liberal arts education.
We emphasize small classes, experiential learning, and service-learning/community based research. Integrative Health Science majors take a core course sequence that culminates in a capstone senior research project and thesis. Some of these projects result in student presentations at regional or national meetings and/or publications with faculty co-authors. For examples of collaborative research with students across the university see "Stetson Showcase" at http://www.stetson.edu/other/research/showcase.php
