DEPARTMENT OF GEOGRAPHY AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE
POSITION:
Stetson University seeks a Physical Geographer or cognate at the Assistant or Associate level with interest in hydrology, that is, dynamic water processes broadly defined in the Earth system. Research program with an international focus is considered an asset. We seek a teacher-scholar who is devoted to undergraduate education through leadership by example and shared research.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A Ph.D. in geography or similar discipline is required with evidence of active scholarship and excellent undergraduate teaching. We seek a colleague who studies water using an Earth systems approach to support our natural sciences curriculum. For consideration at the associate level, you must demonstrate sustained scholarship and other accomplishments with an agenda for continued productivity.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The teaching load is three courses per semester, spread across introductory to advanced levels in Earth system processes. Ability to integrate GIS or other geospatial techniques into coursework is expected. Faculty work closely with students throughout their education, culminating in a senior research project. The hire will support our vibrant, growing Environmental Science Program through collaborative research including students and peer-reviewed scholarship. THE DEPARTMENT:
The Department of Geography and Environmental Science (http://www.stetson.edu/other/academics/programs/geography.php) originated as Florida's first university geography program and is located in the University's Gillespie Museum of Earth and Environmental Science, which is a member of the Association of Science-Technology Centers. The interdisciplinary Environmental Science Program brings together expertise from eleven departments in the College of Arts and Sciences, with links to the Stetson College of Law. Water issues are particularly well represented among member faculty. We emphasize small classes, applied projects, and service-learning.
