VISITING ASSISTANT OR ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR (non-tenure track)

POSITION:
Stetson University seeks a broadly prepared and experienced educational leader for a full-time, one-year, non-tenure track appointment as visiting assistant or associate professor. We seek a dynamic teacher/scholar with a proven track record of innovative leadership in K-12 education with a focus on reading/literacy education. He or she must be able to teach core courses in both our undergraduate and graduate programs while participating energetically in the rapidly changing field of teacher and educational leader preparation. We especially seek a faculty colleague who can deepen our program's signature emphasis on preparing teachers in the critical dimensions of class, gender, and culture in 21st-century K-12 education. He or she must also be able to draw on the strengths of the University's academic program in the liberal arts and sciences, business, law, and counseling.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The candidate will have 1) earned doctorate from an accredited university in Reading Education or a related field; 2) minimum 3 years teaching experience in K-12 setting; 3) proficiency in teaching with technology; 4) credential to teach ESOL-infused courses; and, 5) excellent communication skills. Experience as a reading specialist is desirable. Experience in teaching at the college level is also highly desirable.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will be expected to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in Reading Education and other related areas according to expertise; supervise internships and practica; assist with state and NCATE certification requirements; take an active role in partnerships with school systems; and coordinate the cohort-based graduate reading program.

THE COMMUNITY:
DeLand is a picturesque residential community of 25,000 located 20 miles west of Daytona Beach and 35 miles northeast of Orlando. The area offers extensive cultural as well as recreational activities.
