ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
POSITION:
Stetson University seeks a Molecular Cell Biologist at the Assistant Professor level. This is a tenure-track position.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A Ph.D. in biology or a related field with evidence of strong teaching skills and research that could incorporate student investigation at a liberal arts university. Interest in innovative teaching techniques and collaborative research is advantageous.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The teaching load will be one or two lecture sections and two laboratory sections each semester. The candidate will be expected to teach at least one course in the introductory biology and/or in the General Education curriculum and to develop upper division courses in the colleague's area of expertise. The candidate also will be expected to develop an active research program to support our undergraduate education in molecular biology, and to publish peer-reviewed publications in his or her discipline, some of which should include students. Although there are opportunities for internal summer grants both with and without student collaborators, the candidate also will be encouraged to seek external funding. THE DEPARTMENT: The Biology Department (http://www.stetson.edu/other/academics/programs/biology.php) is one of the largest academic programs on campus and consists of nine faculty members with areas of expertise in molecular biology and ecology, microbiology, neurobiology, developmental biology, evolutionary biology, and aquatic and terrestrial organismal ecology. We emphasize small classes, investigative research in and out of the classroom, and service-learning/community based research. Capstone senior research projects for all Biology majors represent collaborative research between students and faculty and some of these projects result in presentations at regional or national meetings and/or publications with student co-authors. THE COMMUNITY:
DeLand is a picturesque residential community of 25,000 located 20 miles west of Daytona Beach and 35 miles northeast of Orlando. The area offers extensive cultural as well as recreational activities.
