"UNTIL WE GET RID OF RUSSIAN PROPAGANDA, WE WILL NOT HAVE A FULL-FLEDGED STATE"—P.Ts.U. BISHOP
Religiina Pravda, 4 February 2022
Until Ukrainians rid themselves of Russian imperialistic propaganda, there will not be a full-fledged Ukrainian state or a full-fledged Ukrainian church.
This was stated by Metropolitan of Pereyaslav and Vishnyovoe Alexander Drabinko of the PTsU [Orthodox Church of Ukraine] in an interview with Polish radio.
For 300 years Ukraine has been under the political influence of and in dependence upon Russia. Beginning in 1686 and subsequently, after Peter in 1709 defeated Mazepa and Ukrainian statehood and merged the territory of Ukraine into a unified Russian empire, it was emasculated and the on-going process obliterated the self-identity of Ukrainians and the Ukrainian church as such. When journalists ask me about why the process ended and how the creation of the church is happening I always answer them that this is the way it is with states," the metropolitan said.
He stated: "Until we overcome this Russian imperialist propaganda we will not be able to become a full-fledged Ukrainian state nor a full-fledged Ukrainian church, which has to be within our state." (tr. by PDS, posted 4 February 2020)
