U.P.Ts.M.P. BOASTS ABOUT HOW THEY PREVENTED PATRIARCH BARTHOLOMEW FROM PRAYING FOR UKRAINE
Religiina Pravda, 24 August 2021
Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew did not attend the prayer for Ukraine in which, on the morning of 24 August, religious leaders of Ukraine and President Vladimir Zelensky and his wife participated. As Metropolitan Antony of the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine (UPTsMP) boasted on his Facebook page, this happened because of the firm position of representatives of the UPTsMP, who are continuing to protest against the visit to Ukraine of the ecumenical patriarch.
"This was the position and condition of our church about which I spoke earlier in a previous commentary. And that is that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UPTsMP --ed.) will not participate in the event in Holy Wisdom cathedral if Patriarch Bartholomew is there. We brought this position to the attention both of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations, which was the organizer of this event, and of the government. We are thankful that they listened to us," the chancellor of the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine declared.
We note that before this Metropolitan Onufry ignored the session of the Council of Churches on 23 August, at which Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew was present. Metropolitan Onufry's chair at the session of the Council of Churches remained empty.
Earlier Metropolitan Antony, in an interview with Russian news media, declared that representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine will not attend evens in which the ecumenical patriarch participates, because "we have suffered so much evil and trouble."
We recall that on the day of the 30th anniversary of the independence of Ukraine, the "Prayer for Ukraine" resounded in the yard of the "Holy Wisdom of Kiev" national monument; it was performed by a chamber choir.
In addition, at the start of the event, the choir sang the "Our Father," and religious leaders of Ukraine, including Metropolitan Epifany, Major Archbishop Sviatoslav, and others delivered their speeches and addresses to believers. (tr. by PDS, posted 24 August 2021)
