PRELIMINARY SCHEDULE OF VISIT TO KIEV BY PATRIARCH OF CONSTANTINOPLE BARTHOLOMEW BECOMES KNOWN
The historic visit by Patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomew to Kiev, timed to correspond with the 30th anniversary of the independence of Ukraine, will last four days and will presumably begin on 22 August. A detailed schedule of the visit has still not been published to avoid provocations on the part of the more radical supporters of the Moscow patriarchate in Ukraine, which are promising "to disrupt the visit" This was reported to a correspondent of the Credo.Press portal on 10 August by a source close to the leadership of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (PTsU).
Patriarch Bartholomew will hold a number of official meetings in Kiev, with the president, prime minister, and speaker of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada, and he will also attend a parade commemorating Independence Day on 24 August. Among the "secular" events of the visit will be a meeting with children of heroes who perished in the Donbass for the freedom of Ukraine, visits with the ambassadors of Greece and Turkey, and laying flowers at the memorial to victims of the Golodomor (genocide of the Ukrainian people).
The church part of the patriarchal visit will include vespers in the church of St. Andrew of Kiev, which is a stavropegion (annex) of the patriarchate of Constantinople, a liturgy in the cathedral church of St. Michael's Golden-domed monastery with Metropolitan Epifany and other hierarchs of the PTsU, and a communal meal with clergy of that church.
