MARTIAL LAW WILL NOT IMPEDE CREATION OF LOCAL CHURCH IN UKRAINE—ANDREI PARUBY
The introduction of martial law in Ukraine will not impede the conducting of a unification bishops' council, which is necessary for creating a Ukrainian Local Orthodox Church. This was stated by the speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Andrei Paruby.
"Russia is trying to prevent the creation of a Local Ukrainian Orthodox Church. I urge Patriarch Bartholomew to conduct the council in Kiev as quickly as possible, and we guarantee the security of this council," he said. This was reported by Gromadske.
We add that the head of the Verkhovna Rada, Andrei Paruby, signed the bill that was voted on 26 November, which puts into effect the president's order about martial law in Ukraine. This was reported on the website of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada.
Paruby signed the draft law on 28 November. Now it is being sent to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and after his signature martial law will be officially in effect in ten oblasts of Ukraine. (tr. by PDS, posted 28 November 2018)
