Ukrainian presidential candidate includes church in campaign promises

YULIA TIMOSHENKO DECLARES FULL SUPPORT FOR UNITED AUTOCEPHALOUS CHURCH IN UKRAINE

Religiia v Ukraine, 26 November 2018

On 23 November the Fatherland Party conducted in Kiev a forum "New social doctrine: New possibilities for each." At it was announced, in particular, comprehensive support for a united autocephalous Orthodox Church in Ukraine, Religiia v Ukraine reports with a reference to RBC.ua.

"The new government will do everything to establish in Ukraine a united local Orthodox church and will defend it legally and not permit the destruction of the inter-confessional peace that exists in Ukraine," Yulia Timoshenko noted who, according to the results of a survey this year, is the leader in the presidential race.

"We will provide severe punishments for any vandalism or calls for violence and we will introduce accountability for repudiation of our church. We will give full support and reliable protection to our Ukrainian hierarchs, we will protect church buildings, and we will foster understanding and toleration among representatives of various religious confessions," the leader of Fatherland declared.

Yulia Timoshenko also assured that the government will accomplish programs for the restoration and preservation of castles and churches of Ukraine, will complete the Mistetsky Arsenal, and modernize the museum. Ukraine will become a "free culture zone" and the Gogol-Fest festival will return to Kiev.

We recall that earlier Yulia Timoshenko complimented Ukraine on Constantinople's important decision on the autocephaly of the Ukrainian church. (tr. by PDS, posted 26 November 2018)
