LEADER OF CELL OF JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES ARRESTED IN NOVOSIBIRSK

Novosibirsk police officers have put an end to the activity of a religious organization of Jehovah's Witnesses, which is forbidden in the RF, Oleg Olnev, deputy chief of police of the chief directorate of the Russian MVD for the region, reported in an operational conference in the oblast government building on Monday.
"Within the context of carrying out measures for the prevention of extremist phenomena, the activity of a local Christian religious organization of Jehovah's Witnesses that has been observed in Novosibirsk was stopped. The activity of this organization has been ruled to be extremist and forbidden on the territory of the Russian Federation," he said.
The organization had 15 members, he specified.
During searches at the homes of the organizer of the group and active members, literature of the religious organization of Jehovah's Witnesses, mobile phones, and electronic data storage were confiscated.
A criminal case has been opened against the leader of the organization and he was arrested in accordance with article 91 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of the RF," O. Olnev said. (tr. by PDS, posted 12 November 2018)
