SPEAKER OF UKRAINIAN PARLIAMENT ANNOUNCES UNIFICATION COUNCIL OF CHURCH BY END OF NOVEMBER

The president of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Andrei Paruby, during a session of the parliamentary coordinating council on 5 November, declared that a unification bishops' council of the Orthodox church in Ukraine should be held before the end of November of this year, Religiia v Ukraine reports, citing Slovoidilo.ua.
Paruby said that on 3 November an agreement between the state of Ukraine and the ecumenical patriarchate was signed "which guarantees the creation of a united local Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the granting of a tomos concerning autocephaly to it."
As Paruby noted, the task of the council is to make a decision regarding church unity and to select a primate of the united local autocephalous church who will receive the tomos concerning autocephaly of the UPTs. (tr. by PDS, posted 5 November 2018)
