Enforcement of anti-evangelism law in 2018

DATA PUBLISHED ON APPLICATION OF ARTICLE ON ILLEGAL EVANGELISM IN FIRST HALF OF 2018

According to official statistics, in the first six months of 2018, courts considered 234 cases of illegal evangelism and held accountable 147 persons and in most cases imposed fines.

 

The Russian Supreme Court published statistical data on the enforcement of article 5.26 of the Code of Administrative Violations of Law of the RF (violation of legislation on freedom of conscience and freedom on religious confession and on religious associations) in the first six months of 2018.

 

According to official data, in this time 234 cases were considered on the basis of this article.

 

Punishment was assessed on 147 persons (42 legal entities and 105 natural persons).

 

In 144 cases, the penalty imposed was a fine, in 4 cases, confiscation, in 2 cases, compulsory labor, and in one case, deportation from the country and a warning.

 

The total of fines imposed by courts as a result of considering cases in six months was 2,471,000 rubles.

 

In the entire time that the anti-evangelism amendments have been in effect, 459 persons have been brought to justice and fines of 8,048,700 rubles have been imposed. (tr. by PDS, posted 25 October 2018)
