Interfax-Religiia, 16 October 2018

It was declared in the Kremlin that they are following the development of the situation in relations between the Russian Orthodox Church (RPTs) and the Constantinople patriarchate very attentively and with concern.

"Of course, we are observing how relations between the Russian Orthodox Church and the ecumenical patriarchate are developing very attentively and with great concern. This provokes our concern," the press secretary of the president of the RF, Dmitry Peskov, said in response to a corresponding question from journalists on Tuesday.

"We are hoping that wisdom will still prevail. At the same time, of course, we are hoping that all the interests of the Russian Orthodox Church will be respected," he added.

As D. Peskov emphasized, the RPTs must itself give an explanation regarding its interests, which should be respected. "You understand, we cannot intervene in church affairs. But inasmuch as it is one of the main religions in Russia, then naturally we are not indifferent to how the relations of the RPTs with other churches are developing," D. Peskov said.
