SYNODS OF CONSTANTINOPLE AND MOSCOW TO HOLD SESSIONS IN CONTEXT OF DISPUTE ON UKRAINE

The next meeting of the Synod of the ecumenical patriarchate is planned for 9-11 October. In his turn, Patriarch Kirill is convening the Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church (RPTs) on 15 October in Minsk. The churches are in conflict inasmuch as they have their own plans relative to Ukraine, Religiia v Ukraine reports, with reference to Ukrinform and UNN.
"The regular session of the Holy Synod of the ecumenical patriarchate will be held on the previously confirmed date, that is, 9-11 October," Ukrinform reports, with reference to a source acquainted with the situation.
Earlier, the press secretary of the UPTsKP, Vladyka Evstraty Zorya, in an interview with the news agency, cited that date for the next session of the Synod of the ecumenical patriarchate. He suggested that at the Synod, the report of the exarchs of Constantinople, who made a visit to Kiev, will be considered.
On 15 October, the conduct of a session of the Synod of the RPTs is scheduled in Belarus. Patriarch of Moscow Kirill will arrive in Belarus on 13 October. The situation of the Orthodox church in Ukraine is one of the important topics of the session of the Synod of the RPTs, Metropolitan of Minsk and Zaslav Pavel, the head of the Belorussian exarchate of the RPTs, reported.
He also declared that the "Belorussian Orthodox Church again calls Patriarch Bartholomew to reconsider and postpone a decision on granting independence to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. (tr. by PDS, posted 8 October 2018)
