HEAD OF UNITED LOCAL CHURCH WILL BE ELECTED AT UNIFICATION COUNCIL AFTER GRANT OF TOMOS—PATRIARCH FILARET
RISU, 1 October 2018
A tomos, that is, order, of the ecumenical patriarch concerning the grant of autocephaly to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church will be received by a new head of the UPTs. This was stated by the primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kiev Patriarchate (UPTsKP), Patriarch Filaret, in an interview with "5 Channel."
He explained that the head of the united local church will be elected at a unification council. And this will happen as soon as Constantinople makes the decision to grant autocephaly to Ukraine.
"The head of the Ukrainian church will be elected at a unification council (sobor), and the unification council will consist of bishops of the Kiev patriarchate, that is 41 bishops; 12 bishops of the Autocephalous Church; and 10 bishops of the Moscow patriarchate," Patriarch Filaret explained.
