Stiff fine threatens Pentecostals under anti-evangelism law

PROSECUTOR DEMANDS THAT RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATION BE HELD LIABLE FOR VIOLATION OF REQUIREMENTS OF LEGISLATION

The prosecutor's office of the Metallurgicheskii district of the city of Cheliabinsk conducted a verification of compliance with the requirements of legislation on freedom of conscience and freedom of religious confession and on religious associations by the religious organization "Hope Mission of Christians of Evangelical Faith" of the city of Cheliabinsk.

 

It was established that the religious organization was registered and conducts worship services in the Metallurgicheskii district of the city of Cheliabinsk. In violation of the requirements of legislation, the façade of the one-story residence in which services are conducted does not have information about the official complete name of the organization.

 

In accordance with part 8 of article 8 of the law "On freedom of conscience and religious associations," while conducting its activity a religious organization is required to indicate its full name, which should contain information about its religious doctrine. Failure to indicate the official complete name of the organization constitutes the objective aspect of the substance of an administrative violation of law, specified in part 3 of article 5.26 of the Code of Administrative Violations of Law of the RF.

 

The prosecutor's office opened a case of administrative violation of law with respect to the religious organization "Hope Mission of Christians of Evangelical Faith" of the city of Cheliabinsk specified in part 3 of article 5.26 of the Code of Administrative Violations of Law of the Russian Federation.

 

The article provides for a sanction of assigning a fine of from 30,000 to 50,000 rubles.

 

Materials have been sent for consideration in magistrate court of the Metallurgicheskii district of the city of Cheliabinsk. (tr. by PDS, posted 22 August 2018)
