On 3 August, in the city of Mariinsk of Kemerovo oblast, the ceremonial opening of a memorial to a protestant hero, one of the founders of the Russian Pentecostal movement, Ivan Efimovich Voronaev, was held. Government leaders participated in the event, including one of the members of the administration of Kemerovo oblast, E.A. Ivanov, the chairman of the Committee for Cooperation with Religious Organizations, who, despite the geographic distance, found it possible to attend this event.

The head of the Russian Associated Union of Christians of Evangelical Faith [ROSKhVE], Bishop Sergei Riakhovsky, in a letter to the interim governor of the oblast, Sergei Tsivilev, expressed thanks for the support of the socially significant project "Spiritual heritage of heroes of the Russian land" and noted the constructive work of the administration of the Mariinsk municipal district, by whose support this event, which is very significant for the protestant community of Russia, was held.

"The participation of representatives of governmental bodies in such events permanently facilitates the strengthening of state-confession and interconfessional relations," the cleric shared. "The evangelical church of Russia prays for the powers that be and manifests an openness for dialogue with representatives of the bodies of state power and takes an active part in the resolution of serious social problems of the country."

The ruling bishop expressed the hope that fruitful cooperation between the administration and protestant churches of Kemerovo oblast not only will continue but will be strengthened and expanded. (tr. by PDS, posted 13 August 2018)
