EXPECTED DATE FOR REVIEW OF UKRAINIAN QUESTION BY CONSTANTINOPLE ANNOUNCED
A session of the assembly of the bishops of the ecumenical patriarchate will be held from 1 to 3 September. It is not ruled out that the "Ukrainian church question" will be resolved, fanarion.blogspot reports.
The news itself indicates the reason for the session. "Questions regarding the Mother-Church and, on the more general plane, Orthodoxy [will be] considered."
First, the ecumenical patriarchate does not call itself "Mother-Church" in meetings of a general Orthodox nature; such a designation is used only when the subject is Ukraine or the Kiev metropolitanate.
Second, the tomos is really important in the context of the entire Orthodox world.
It should be noted that in the practice of local Orthodox churches, fundamentally important decisions are made in the following way: first there is a session of the synod (a narrow circle of influential bishops), at which a decision is made, and then a sobor or meeting of the entire episcopate, at which the decision is discussed and confirmed.
