JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES' HOUSE IN ANAPA TAKEN AWAY BY COURT INTO R.F. OWNERSHIP
Interfax-Religiia, 18 July 2018
A court in Anapa transferred into state ownership a residential building and plot of land belonging to the religious organization of Jehovah's Witnesses that has been liquidated in Russia, Interfax was told on Wednesday in the press service of the prosecutor's office of Anapa of Krasnodar territory.
"According to the requirements of legislation, property of a liquidated religious association is subject to conversion to the ownership of the Russian Federation. An object of immovable property in the village of Anapa, valued at 5.5 million rubles, consisting of a house of 150.4 square meters area and land of 1,200 square meters was converted to ownership by the Russian Federation," the news agency's source said.
He noted that the local organization of Jehovah's Witnesses tried to sell the plot with the house to a private individual, having concluded a sales agreement with him.
"The action of the religious organization for alienation of the property was found by a court to be calculated and the agreement to be an invalid transaction. The right of the citizen's ownership of the real estate objects was nullified and the building and land were turned over to state ownership," the news agency's interlocutor explained.
As has been reported, in the spring of 2017 the division of the Russian justice ministry for Krasnodar territory liquidated all congregations of Jehovah's Witnesses that had previously been active in the region—more than 40 local religious organizations that were active in practically all of the municipalities of the territory.
On 20 April 2017, the Supreme Court of Moscow, on the basis of a lawsuit of the Russian Ministry of Justice, found the Russian Jehovah's Witnesses to be an extremist organization and forbade its activity on the territory of the country. (tr. by PDS, posted 18 July 2018)
