ARCHIMANDRITE KIRILL: EXACT DATE OF HOLDING SYNOD WHERE TOMOS QUESTION IS CONSIDERED IS NOT KNOWN EVEN ON THE PHANAR
The date of conducting the synod of the Constantinople patriarchate where the question of the tomos concerning the autocephaly of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church will be considered depends on how event unfold in Ukraine. For himself, Patriarch Bartholomew has already made the decision.
This opinion was expressed by Archimadrite Kirill, a professor of a university in Los Angeles, in an interview with Radio Maria.
"Even on the Phanar they cannot predict the date of such a synod. There is hardly any reason to hope that such a synod will be held soon. Possibly it will happen in late June," he said.
He said, the Ukrainian clergy should assemble for a Sobor to create the structure to which Patriarch Bartholomew will present the tomos.
"It is obvious that some new church administrative structure should be created, to which the tomos will be presented. . . . The synod in Constantinople will be held closer to this Sobor, which will occur in Ukraine and which will give the impetus to this process. The session in Constantinople will be tied to this Sobor," the archimandrite noted.
In his opinion, the newly formed structure should receive the status of a legal entity. Archimandrite Kirill also predicted that the establishment of an united local Orthodox church will not proceed without pain.
"There will be conflicts; one should to close one's eyes to this. It is necessary to understand that there will arise areas of tension. The more so since the church party that is advocating maintaining the status quo will accentuate these problems," the clergyman predicted.
Archimandrite Kirill also noted that neither
the trips of
the politicians and RPTs clergy to representatives of the local
Orthodox
churches nor the voyages of believers to the Phanar with
signatures against the
autocephaly of the UPTs have had any significance, since Patriarch
Bartholomew
has made the decision regarding the tomos for the Ukrainian
church. (tr. by
