Police personnel seized from the apartment of a 21-year-old resident of Cheliabinsk literature that is included in the list of extremist materials.

The press service of the regional directorate of the MVD reports on Tuesday that an operation was conducted within the context of a criminal case that has been opened on the basis of part 2 of article 213 of the Criminal Code of the RF (hooliganism).

In addition, documents and certificates were found that confirm the membership of the man in an organization that has been prohibited by the decision of the Russian Supreme court and found to be extremist on the territory of the country.

The seized material was sent for expert analysis, on the results of which a procedural decision will be made.

In its turn, an informed source clarified for the news agency that the search was conducted in the apartment of Boris Zolotarevsky, the manager of the headquarters of [political dissident--tr.] Aleksei Navalny in Cheliabinsk, one of the organizers of an unsanctioned parade that was conducted on 5 May.

"Several dozen books, published by Jehovah's Witnesses, were taken from his apartment. In addition, a certificate was discovered that was given to Zolotarevsky upon completion of religious courses of this organization," the news agency's source said.

Also, according to his information, B. Zolotarevsky earlier wrote an application about substituting alternative service for performance of service in the army upon conscription  on the basis of religious considerations.

It was earlier reported that B. Zolotarevsky spent 25 days of administrative detention in a special detention cell of the Cheliabinsk MVD department. He was arrested on 5 May for violation of the procedure for conducting a parade.

On 20 April 2017, on the basis of a lawsuit by the Russian Ministry of Justice, the Supreme Court of Moscow found the Jehovah's Witnesses to be an extremist organization and forbade its activity on Russian territory. (tr. by PDS, posted 30 May 2018)
