COURT IN OREL UNABLE TO QUESTION ERMOLOV ON FIRST ATTEMPT
Orlovskie Novosti, 23 May 2018
The questioning of a secret witness in the case of the Dane Dennis Christensen, who is charged with extremism, was postponed to next week, an Orlovskie Novosti correspondent reports.
The basis for the postponement of the session was two protests by lawyers for the Dane, who doubted the necessity of secretiveness regarding the witness and also of questioning him without his being present in the courtroom. Christensen's defense attorneys declared that they presumable know who is being hidden behind the pseudonym "Aleksei Petrovich Ermolov." He is the same person, the lawyers noted, who was questioned during the preliminary investigation and under his real surname. Therefore, in the opinion of the defense, it is incorrect to question a witness in two personifications.
The side of the prosecution declared that it did not agree with the petitions of the defendant's lawyers, noting that it does not even know who "Aleksei Petrovich Ermolov" is. Nevertheless, for resolving the petition the judge took a break until next week. . . . (tr. by PDS, posted 23 May 2018)
