"SYNOD OF ECUMENICAL PATRIARCHATE DECIDES TO START PROCEDURES NECESSARY FOR GRANTING AUTOCEPHALY—POROSHENKO
The ecumenical patriarchate is beginning the process necessary for granting autocephaly to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. This was reported on Facebook by President Petro Poroshenko.
"The ecumenical patriarchate is beginning procedures necessary for granting autocephaly to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The pertinent decision was made by the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, which yesterday accepted for consideration an appeal from the president to Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew about granting a tomos concerning the autocephaly of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine, the resolution of the Supreme Soviet in its support, and also corresponding appeals of hierarchs of the Ukrainian Orthodox churches," the president's report says.
We recall that on 19 April, deputies of the Verkhovna Rada voted for a resolution concerning the president's appeal to Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew about granting a tomos concerning autocephaly to the Orthodox church in Ukraine. (tr. by PDS, posted 23 April 2018)
