The prosecutor's office of the city of
Chapaevsk,
along with the department of the Russian MVD for the city of
Chapaevsk, conducted
a verification of compliance with the requirements of
legislation on combating
extremist activity in the local religious organization of
Jehovah's Witnesses
in the city of Chapaevsk.
In accordance with article 13 of the
federal law
"On combating extremist activity," the distribution of extremist
materials, their production, or their storage for purposes of
distribution on
the territory of the Russian federation are prohibited.
In the course of conducting the
verification in the
house of worship of the religious organization of Jehovah's
Witnesses in the
city of Chapaevsk, extremist materials (books, brochures) that
have been
included by the Russian Ministry of Justice in the Federal List
of Extremist
Materials were discovered.
Because of this, on 30 September 2016
the prosecutor
of the city opened a case of administrative violation of law
under article 20.20
of the Code of Administrative Violation of Law of the RF
(storage and
distribution of extremist materials) against the legal entity of
the Local
Religious Organization of Jehovah's Witnesses of the City of
Chapaevsk.
The order and materials of the
verification were sent
to the Chapaevsk city court.
