SINGING UKRAINIAN CHRISTMAS CAROLS BANNED IN SIMFEROPOL CHURCHES "TO AVOID PROBLEMS"
Church choirs in churches of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow patriarchate in Simferopol received an order to refuse to perform Ukrainian Christmas carols in the Ukrainian language during celebration of the birth of Christ in order "not to create problems."
This was reported by local residents, QNA reports.
Before Christmas, the head of the UPTsMP, Metropolitan of Kiev and all Ukraine Onufrey, declared that the main language of Orthodox worship services should be Church Slavonic and Ukrainian may be used only for sermons.
In the metropolitan's opinion, Crimea "fell away" from Ukraine because Ukrainians "began creeping into there with their own western values." (tr. by PDS, posted 11 January 2016)
